The 2021 Supercars Championship kicks off on Friday on the hallowed bitumen around Mount Panorama.

For the first time ever, Bathurst will open the season. And this weekend’s meet will be a single-driver sprint event, no less – the first in 25 years at the famous venue.

And while we’re back at the same course that hosted last season’s finale (the first time that back-to-back scenario has occured in 50 years!) one thing will look very different from 2020: Three-time reigning champion Scott McLaughlin won’t be around to defend his Supercars crown after moving to IndyCar.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Repco Mt Panorama 500.

Published

on

Daniel Ricciardo has his eyes firmly set on an F1 world championship but the lure of venturing outside his comfort zone into other racing categories certainly appeals to him.

The Aussie driver has flagged his desire to dip his toes into the IndyCar series and Supercars, if not competing in them directly, then at least trying out the different cars and tracks.

WAU has previously thrown wildcard entires into the most iconic Supercars race in Australia, the Bathurst 1000, and McLaren has also raced cars in IndyCar.

F1 news 2021, Imola Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, George Russell, Mercedes, driver line up, McLaren, Zak Brown

Published

on

Max Verstappen and George Russell have been tipped to jump ship to Mercedes for the 2022 season in what has been described as “the obvious conclusion” by McLaren CEO Zak Brown.

Mercedes currently has the longest-serving driver partnership on the grid, with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas beginning their fifth season together.

But with the new sweeping regulations coming in next season set to refresh the field, Mercedes are expected to look to the future and change up one, if not both of their drivers.

Bottas is the obvious name who they will look to replace first, but a lot too will depend on Lewis Hamilton and whether he decides to retire should he claim a record eighth world championship this season.
