F1 news 2020, Portuguese Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo, Renault, Oscar Piastri, Formula 2, 3, Bahrain test

Published

on

Australian young gun Oscar Piastri will follow in the footsteps of Daniel Ricciardo as he jumps into a Renault Formula 1 car for the first time after winning the Formula 3 championship earlier this year.

Piastri will drive the team’s 2018 car next Friday in Bahrain as part of a four-day test session for three members of the Renault Academy.

The 19-year-old Melburnian has Australian F1 royalty in his corner in Mark Webber, who is his manager, and is hoping for big things for the teenager.

Ricciardo first got behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car in 2009, two years before his race debut in 2011, so the signs are positive for the highly-rated Piastri.

F1 news 2020, Portuguese Grand Prix, Haas sack drivers, Mick Schumacher, Sergio Perez, Red Bull, driver line up 2021, latest

Published

on

Haas has ditched both of its current drivers for the 2021 season, with Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen now both likely to leave Formula 1.

With just six races to go of the current season, the driver market is ramping up, with Haas’ decision to open up two more seats on the grid means there could be up to eight seats still up for grabs for next season.

Grosjean and Magnussen have been teammates for four years, which is the joint longest partnership on the grid along with Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, but have struggled the last two seasons after a promising 2018 where the team punched well above its weight.

Now Haas has fallen towards the back of the grid and is making big changes to halt the slide, and while it is not the biggest surprise – well, not to Grosjean, anyway – it does open up a plethora of options for next season.

F1 News 2020: Portuguese Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton, Vitaly Petrov, Black Lives Matter, Racism, Gay

Published

Lewis Hamilton appeared to be at loggerheads with Formula One’s ruling body again on Thursday when he criticised the selection of Vitaly Petrov as a race steward for this weekend’s Portuguese Grand Prix.

The six-time champion, who is bidding to secure a record 92nd career win, said he was surprised that the FIA (International Motoring Federation) had chosen someone who held views that were counter to the body’s ‘We Race as One’ campaign for diversity and inclusivity.

“We should definitely be including people here who are with the times, who are understanding of the time we are living in and sensitive to the matters that are surrounding us,” said Hamilton.
