Mathew Leckie Hertha Berlin: Socceroos star wants to leave, opens up on frustrating politics

Published

Socceroo Mathew Leckie has opened up on his German nightmare, revealing he will “do everything he can to leave” Hertha Berlin having been frozen out of first team football.

Leckie is still contracted with the Bundesliga side until 2021 but a lack of game time this season down to “frustrating” politics this season has the former Adelaide United determined to head for the exit.

It has been a tumultuous season for Hertha, cycling through three separate managers — including a disastrous nine-game spell with World Cup winner Jurgen Klinsmann at the helm before the German resigned via a Facebook post last week.

“I wanted to leave (before this season) and I had the feeling a lot would change,” Leckie told foxsports.com.au.
