Abu Dhabi F1 GP, F1 news 2019, Martin Brundle column, Lewis Hamilton, F1 DRS fail

Published

on

Another Formula 1 season sails past at a scary pace, our traditional post-season Sky F1 team photo under the floodlights on the Abu Dhabi start straight seems to come around every six months.

Being generous, that was a slow-burn race which gathered excitement towards the end, as is often the case on the Yas Island layout.

In theory, a slow T7 hairpin leading onto a long straight, which is followed by a clumsy but slow chicane onto another effectively long straight, should generate some organic overtaking. Both those straights also have DRS drag reduction zones for the rear wing, although on this occasion that system failed due to a server crashing for the first 18 laps of the race.

F1 2020, Max Verstappen future, Red Bull Racing, F1 news

Published

on

Red Bull are confident a “very happy” Max Verstappen will sign a new deal despite links to Mercedes and a potential F1 2021 driver merry-go-round.

Verstappen, with eight wins and 31 podiums at the age of 22, has firmly established himself as one F1’s most sought-after stars, and is one of many high-profile drivers – including Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel – who sees his contract with his current team expire at the end of next season.

Hamilton’s possible switch to Ferrari has been dominating the driver market chatter so far, but Verstappen has long been a rumoured target of Mercedes, who have claimed all 12 F1 titles since Red Bull’s last in 2013.

Red Bull, however, believe they can persuade Verstappen to stay.
