V8 Supercars 2019: Ford Mustang, Tickford Racing, Scott McLaughlin, centre of gravity, parity

Published

The new changes to the Ford Mustang are “good for the sport”, according to Tickford Racing boss Tim Edwards.

For only the second time this decade, Ford has sealed the Manufacturers’ Championship with Mustangs victorious in 16 of the season’s 18 races.

All six Mustangs are placed in the top 10 after the eighth round in Townsville. At the same stage 12 months ago, just three Mustangs sat in the top 10.

F1 2020, Max Verstappen future, Red Bull Racing, F1 news

Published

on

Red Bull are confident a “very happy” Max Verstappen will sign a new deal despite links to Mercedes and a potential F1 2021 driver merry-go-round.

Verstappen, with eight wins and 31 podiums at the age of 22, has firmly established himself as one F1’s most sought-after stars, and is one of many high-profile drivers – including Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel – who sees his contract with his current team expire at the end of next season.

Hamilton’s possible switch to Ferrari has been dominating the driver market chatter so far, but Verstappen has long been a rumoured target of Mercedes, who have claimed all 12 F1 titles since Red Bull’s last in 2013.

Red Bull, however, believe they can persuade Verstappen to stay.

F1 Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari rumours: Louis Camilleri confirms conversations to place

Published

on

Ferrari chief executive officer Louis Camilleri says it’s premature to talk about a possible move of six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton to the Italian team.

Camilleri confirmed that Mercedes driver Hamilton has had “conversations” with Ferrari chairman John Elkann, but not with him nor Team Principal Mattia Binotto.

“It is common knowledge that Lewis has had conversations with (Elkann),” Camilleri told reporters at Ferrari headquarters at Maranello.

“(But) that was a little exaggerated. While it was at a social event, they have mutual friends,” said Camilleri, adding that “it would be premature to decide anything today.”

Published

on

Daniel Ricciardo shocked the F1 world when he announced he was departing Red Bull at the end of the 2018 season and switching to Renault.

The move caught many by surprise as it was a step down for the man who had competed near the front of the grid over the previous five seasons.

But Ricciardo saw his switch as one looking to the future with Renault’s potential to compete for championships ahead of where Red Bull was going.

Speculation rose around why Ricciardo had departed the more powerful Red Bull with talks of a rift between Ricciardo and Max Verstappen and suggestions he was worried about being pushed down to the number two driver in the garage.
