F1 2019: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes F1 Team, Valtteri Bottas, German Grand Prix

Published

on

Lewis Hamilton has fired a warning shot as he steamrolls towards his sixth world title, claiming it’s the “strongest” he has felt this far into a season — and the numbers back it up.

Hamilton has won seven of 10 races so far in 2019, and has romped to a 39-point lead over Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas.

Bottas has taken more poles than Hamilton this season – four to three – but the Finn has failed to convert three of them into wins, Hamilton taking the flag each time.

With the new season fast approaching, Supercars has confirmed the garage line-ups which, in 2020, will feature no single-car teams and shared crews.

In winning the 2019 teams’ championship, Shell V-Power Racing will occupy the first two garages and will enjoy positional priority in the lane ahead of arch rivals the Red Bull Holden Racing Team.

Behind the two powerhouse teams, though, is a Tickford Racing switch, with the four-car Ford squad mixing up its two-car booms for 2020.

There has been more twists in the tale of the driver market and Lewis Hamilton’s future, with reports suggesting the six-time world champion is chasing a bumper four-year deal with Mercedes.

Young guns Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have been locked away on long-term deals by Ferrari and Red Bull respectively.

Hamilton has been linked to a high-profile defection from Mercedes to Ferrari, although some believe the new deal for Leclerc – 12 years Hamilton’s junior – may have flipped the narrative.
