Daniel Ricciardo rocked by $18m legal claim over F1 move to Renault

Published

Daniel Ricciardo has vowed to defend himself after the Aussie F1 star’s former advisor reportedly started legal action over what he alleges are unpaid earnings.

Per Motorsport.com and the BBC, Glenn Beavis has taken the matter to the United Kingdom High Court of Justice and is claiming he is owed nearly $AUD18 million because he has not received commissions relating to Ricciardo’s lucrative new contract with Renault, who the 30-year-old driver joined this year.

According to the reports, Beavis has lodged legal documents with the High Court, arguing he is owed approximately $18m for “various sums due in accordance with the commission agreed between the parties”.

Ricciardo left Red Bull at the end of 2018 and made the shock decision to join Renault on a two-year deal. Reports circulated in the British press earlier this year claiming Ricciardo’s salary was nudging $50 million but the West Australian rubbished those suggestions.

Ricciardo issued a statement to Motorsport.com about the $18 million bombshell in which he said: “There is no substance to Glenn Beavis’ claim.

Alex Rins had a day to remember as he defeated Marc Marquez on the line to win the British Grand Prix, but confusion nearly cost the Suzuki rider a second premier class win.

Rins and Marquez were locked in battle at Silverstone in a race that was decided by a mere 0.013s, with the former sneaking inside the championship leader exiting the final corner on the final lap.

However, Rins admitted his “very big mistake” in losing track of the laps in the race, which left him guessing until the chequered flag flew.

Andrea Dovizioso and Fabio Quartararo have both escaped serious injury after being hospitalised following their shocking Lap 1 crash at Silverstone.

While the race was memorable for the last-gasp finish between Alex Rins and Marc Marquez, it began with high drama as Quartararo fell and wiped out Dovizioso at the high speed Copse corner.

Quartararo highsided exiting the first corner of the race and Dovizioso had nowhere to go, the Ducati rider flying off Quartararo’s Yamaha and landing heavily in the run-off area.

That’s the situation facing Scott McLaughlin after he equalled Craig Lowndes’ record of race wins in a season.

McLaughlin took his 16th win of 2019 at the OTR SuperSprint on Sunday, and drew level with the record set by Lowndes 23 years ago.
