F1 news, Canadian Grand Prix 2019: Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, penalty, retirement, video, watch

Published

on

Lewis Hamilton has described Sebastian Vettel as the driver he most enjoys racing against – and urged his great rival to “stick around” in Formula 1.

Hamilton and Vettel, far and away the grid’s two most successful drivers, were at the centre of another major controversy in Sunday’s Canadian GP when the Ferrari was handed a time penalty for forcing the Mercedes off the track as they battled for the lead.

The sanction dropped a livid Vettel behind Hamilton in the final classification and triggered some extraordinary post-race scenes from the Ferrari driver. But while Vettel expressed his anger with the decision, there was no animosity among the drivers: with Hamilton shepherding the German on to the top step of the podium with him, before Vettel stepped in to say the crowd should not boo the world champion.

British MotoGP 2019, Silverstone qualifying results, Valentino Rossi, Yamaha MotoGP

Published

With retirement the furthest thing from his mind, nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi is aiming to repeat his 2015 British Grand Prix victory following a sensational qualifying performance on Saturday.

The 40-year-old veteran hasn’t tasted victory since the 2017 Dutch TT, and it is toiling through a 2019 campaign which has only featured two visits to the podium.

However, Rossi steered his Monster Energy Yamaha to second on the grid at Silverstone, and will be sandwiched by pole sitter Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) and Jack Miller (Pramac Racing Ducati) for Sunday’s race.

Nick Percat recorded his best finish of the season at the OTR SuperSprint to record a wild turnaround in form at The Bend Motorsport Park.

Percat finished fourth in the 200km-long Race 22, and was the first Holden home behind a trio of Ford Mustangs.

The 2011 Bathurst winner started the race in sixth, but that paled in comparison to his earlier efforts across the weekend as the crew on his #8 X Convenience Mobil Racing ZB Commodore struggled the find the car’s sweetspot.

Records are made to be broken, and Scott McLaughlin firmed to break one of the greatest of all following his Race 22 victory at the OTR SuperSprint.

McLaughlin defied a spirited Will Davison challenge to claim his 16th race victory of 2019, drawing the reigning champion level with the record set by Craig Lowndes in 1996.

So often compared to the great Lowndes, 26-year-old McLaughlin was imperious on Sunday at The Bend Motorsport Park as Davison’s fight collapsed after a promising start.
