EPL news: Stars lead social media boycott over racism problem

Leading English Premier League football stars have backed a 24-hour social media boycott in protest at an escalation of incidents of racial abuse online. The campaign launched by the Professional Footballers’ Association will urge players to stay off social media from 9am local time on Friday morning after posting the hashtag #Enough.

The PFA say it is intended as a show of solidarity with players who have been targeted, as well as a demand to social media organisations and the game’s authorities that more needs to be done.

“Football has the power to do so much good in the world. We must always try to use the sport’s popularity and influence to make positive change,” PFA head of equalities Simone Pound said.

New National Second Division ‘Championship’, committee, Socceroos, a league

A National Second Division has taken a step closer to becoming reality after a panel of experts were brought on board to finalise a timeline and structure for the new league.

A-League and NPL clubs will be asked for their input, as will players and state federations as the committee looks to create a second tier.

The league will look to bridge the gap between the NPL and the A-League and become a crucial step in player development.
