Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull plea ‘give me a chance’: F1 China Grand Prix

Published

on

DANIEL Ricciardo believes his stunning Chinese GP victory proves he would win a Formula 1 world title if given the right tools.

In a chaotic and action-packed finish in Shanghai, Ricciardo rose from sixth to the lead in less than 20 laps in an advance which included stunning overtakes on Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas.

For all his talent this was only Ricciardo’s sixth F1 win, his emergence coinciding with Red Bull’s post-2013 dip, but the Australian is desperate for more so he can maximise his talent and fight for championships.

“It’s a fun way to win for sure,” Ricciardo, out of contract at Red Bull at the end of the season, told Sky F1. “I really feel like, just give me a chance to be in a title hunt and I really believe I’ll take it.

“I feel I can capitalise on opportunities and I guess today was a good example.”

Supercars: news, The Bend, Scott McLaughlin wins, results, Jamie Whincup, standings, championship

Scott McLaughlin took a commanding victory in the final race at the Repco The Bend SuperSprint, on a big day for his pursuit of a third-straight Supercars title.

After an action-packed opening two races, the third 24-lap contest was a more conventional affair, with McLaughlin the effective leader from start to finish.

Tyre conservation was again a major factor and McLaughlin waited until the halfway mark to make his pit stop – two laps after second-placed teammate Fabian Coulthard.

McLaughlin then managed his rubber to the finish, taking the chequered flag 1.8651s ahead of Coulthard, with Jamie Whincup a further four seconds back in third.

Whincup had dropped from third to fifth off the start, and then picked his way past Nick Percat and Chaz Mostert during a long first stint.

Shane van Gisbergen scored victory in an entertaining second race at the Repco The Bend SuperSprint, but it wasn’t all good news for Red Bull HRT.

A slow pit stop due to an air spike issue destroyed Jamie Whincup’s hopes of recovering from his lowly 11th place qualifying effort.

The seven-time champion finished 17th and, with McLaughlin third behind van Gisbergen and Andre Heimgartner, the Shell Ford driver now leads the championship by 201 points.

F1 news, Michael Schumacher update: Legend in a ‘vegetative state’, can’t respond, health

Published

on

F1 legend Michael Schumacher is in a “vegetative state” and not responding to his family, according to a leading doctor.

Renowned neurosurgeon Erich Riederer made the worrying claim in a new documentary that aired on French TV.

“I think he’s in a vegetative state, which means he’s awake but not responding,” he told TMC.

“He is breathing, his heart is beating, he can probably sit up and take baby steps with help, but no more.

“I think that’s the maximum for him. Is there any chance of seeing him like he was before his accident? I really don’t think so.”
