Western Sydney Wanderers v Brisbane Roar: Best first half keeps Wanderers’ A-League finals hopes alive

Published

on

WHEN there’s something on the line, the good players step up.

On Saturday afternoon, something big was on the line for the Wanderers and Roar — a spot in the top six.

But 15 minutes into their crunch clash, it became clear which side had come to play for keeps.

Inside that first period of the game, Oriol Riera struck twice — and the Wanderers never looked like giving up the lead from there.

Round 26

First it was Alvaro Cejudo, who has had a relatively disappointing season, who whipped a dead ball into the path of Riera to head home in the fourth minute.

An already dramatic A-League transfer window has taken another turn, with fringe Socceroo Andrew Nabbout joining Melbourne City from Melbourne Victory.

It represents the second time in a week that a player who was set to join Perth Glory has backflipped on their decision due to difficulties with the move to Western Australia – largely due to state border restrictions and pay negotiation problems.

The first was Nathaniel Atkinson, the 21-year-old Melbourne City fullback deciding to remain at City and re-signing for a further two seasons.
