A-League expansion plan, Mark Bosnich: Bosnich’s five-point expansion plan to fix the A-League

Published

on

THE FFA’s recent announcement on the planned expansion of the A-League has seen rigorous debate about Australia’s top flight, and its underling competitions, surface yet again.

With it widely acknowledged – even by FFA CEO David Gallop – that this season’s A-League has seen the competition stagnate, discussion has turned once again towards what measures the game can take to reach its potential.

Fox Sports football expert Mark Bosnich has had his say on how an expanded, functional A-League could potentially take shape – with a range of new innovations on his wish list.

Speaking on A-League Hour, Bosnich proposed a 16-team top tier and second division, with a system for integrating promotion and relegation, which allows teams to aptly prepare for its implementation.

Premier League transfer news: Chelsea, Manchester United rumours, Kepa, Dayot Upamecano

Published

on

Chelsea are ready to send gaffe-prone Kepa out on loan – after landing Rennes keeper Edouard Mendy as their new first-choice.

Stamford Bridge legend Petr Cech, who himself joined the Blues from the French club, was key in identifying the Senegalese 28-year-old as the new Chelsea gloveman.

And while Chelsea insisted no decision has yet been taken on Kepa’s future, it is understood that Frank Lampard will assent to the Spaniard leaving on loan before next month’s deadline.

Kepa, 25, has struggled to live up to the world record £71m ($A128M) fee Chelsea paid Athletic Bilbao to land him as Thibaut Courtois’ replacement in 2018.

AC Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday but responded: “Covid had the courage to challenge me. Bad idea.”

“I tested negative to Covid yesterday and positive today,” said Ibrahimovic, who turns 39 in a week’s time, on Twitter.

“No symptoms whatsoever. Covid had the courage to challenge me. Bad idea.” The Swede is now self-isolating and missed the team’s Europa League third qualifying round tie against Norwegian club Bodo-Glimt in the San Siro Thursday.

The positive test is a blow for Ibrahimovic who has been in stunning form despite his advancing years.

He scored a double in Milan’s Serie A opener against Bologna on Monday having also netted against Irish side Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League.
