“The A-League needs exciting teams and we’re definitely one. I honestly believe if every coach was like Ernie Merrick, the crowds would be up, and ratings would be up.”

Newcastle Jets Football Operations Manager Joel Griffiths admits he might be biased, but in truth, there are few neutrals who wouldn’t agree with his verdict.

The Jets are flying high and a breath of fresh air this A-League season, and host Sydney FC in a 1 v 2 clash this Saturday night in the club’s biggest game in years.

It’s scarcely believable that the Jets are, arguably, the biggest shot at knocking off Sydney FC this season, given this was a club that finished rooted to the foot of the table last term with five wins, having missed every finals series after 2011.

Round 22

It’s a different club, in every sense of the word.
