Matildas vs USA live, women’s football, live scores, updates, news, result, standings, knockout stages

The Matildas can book their ticket to the knockout stages of the Tokyo Games knockout stages if they stun World Cup holders USA tonight.

However Sam Kerr’s side can also qualify for the final eight with a draw, or even with a loss depending on other results on Tuesday night.

‘F*** YEAH!’ Aussies strike gold AGAIN | 00:58

Australia currently sits third in Group G, tied on three points with the US, following a first-up win over New Zealand, then a 4-2 loss to Sweden.

A win would see the Aussies finish in the top two of the group, likely second behind Sweden, booking a date with the Group F winner – most likely to be the Netherlands or Brazil.

A draw or loss could see the Aussies go through as one of the best third-placed teams, in which case they would face the Group E winner – either Great Britain or Canada, whoever wins their match beginning at 9pm EST tonight.

The only scenario where Australia doesn’t make the knockout stage involves a loss to the USA, China beating the Netherlands and Zambia beating Brazil, the latter two in matches being played from 9:30pm EST tonight.
